At Balboa park I noticed patterns and connections that included Spanish influence and divers cultures. The most interesting artifacts had to be all the paintings and such. Thinking back to the story line project launch, the scavenger hunt confirmed the fact that it was heavily history related. Adding to my KLEWS chart, I could add to my evidence because it's been fact checked by a museum. The curation of the museum were sectioned off or connected depending on how similer

Actual Meaning: Money & Paper- I put the money and the paper with the good grade because I tutor people to make money. Plant- I chose the plant because my dad works in a greenhouse and so I am knowledgeable with gardening. Broken phone- I break my phone a lot so taught myself how to fix phones. Drawer- The drawer represents that I like keeping things organized. Overall they were basically correct; they wrote that I didn't really like using color, I'm often careless with my phone and that I value money. The Pedestrian - Short Story #2 In this short story, year 2053 A.D., a man enjoys taking walks but gets arrested for doing so because no one else walks. This reminds me of The Big Bang Theory kind of just because the few episodes i've seen are all about them just sitting inside. Compared the life of a regular citizen in my short story, to a regular life of a citizen in the United States today it's not often that humans go for a walk simply to enjoy the fresh air. People much rather stay inside on their electronics. I will comment in Paulinas and Jennys posts.2 B R 0 2 B - Short Story #1
In 2 B R 0 2 B (the 0 pronounced ¨naught) is a short story about a world where when every baby is born, someone else has to volunteer to die. In this story, a father is awaiting triplets but only has one person volunteering to die. I do not want to spoil the ending but all the babies have the chance to live. The only dystopian novel I have read is The Giver, I think this short story was really interesting. Similarities that I see are that this is placed in earth (no specific time period) and that parents will still do anything for their child. The New York Times 6/4/18 "Guatemala Volcano’s Death Toll, Now at 65, Is Likely to Rise" By Nic Wirtz and Elisabeth Malkin This article is about the current volcano eruption in Guatemala, Mexico. The article talks a lot about the devastation and the havoc it has caused in peoples life. Many tragic photos can be seen in the article. The volcano first erupted on June third taking the life of 25. That number quickly rose to 65 the next day and up to hundreds are estimated. "The volcano then continued to spew ash, rocks and gas into the air. A second powerful eruption followed at 6:45 p.m. and the activity finally subsided after 16½ hours,". Many people are buried, leaving family members distraught. The seen was described as Pompeii in 79 A.D. by Dr. Otto Mazariegos. This area is still at risk for acid rain. This event was a natural disaster, volcanoes erupt because of density and pressure. The lower density of the magma relative to the surrounding rocks causes it to rise. It will rise to the surface or to a depth that is determined by the density of the magma and the weight of the rocks above it. This event is really sad and an overall scaring experience. I think people and the city will suffer for many years to come not only economically but emotionally as well. I send my prayers with everyone hurt in this disaster. Include at least one photo of something relevant to the article. I will comment on Paola and Jennys blog posts. CNN February 27, 2018 "Inside the secret lives of functioning heroin addicts" By Jessica Ravitz This article is about the inside life of heroin addicts with an (almost) normal life. Work, signs of an addict, and heroin addicts talking about their everyday lives. These are truly stories that you'll never forget. Addicted, google gave me "hysically and mentally dependent on a particular substance, and unable to stop taking it without incurring adverse effects" a better way to explain it would be, as Todd said "I want to feel like this for the rest of my life". That's how it starts, never wanting to end the rush. Addiction isn't always drugs, it could be gambling or the internet. Although Todd has his limits and makes good money, other people in his life haven't been as lucky. Lisa (another story talked about) does it not for the high, but to stay completely and utterly numb. Luckier than todd, Lisa is married, her husband vowing to stay by her side. This event has been happening 1800-2018 all around the world, or where ever drugs are available. In the mid to late 1800’s, opium use was due to the drug being brought into the country by Chinese immigrants who came to the U.S. for work and alcoholism was one of the major sources of violence and death during this period. Eventually, opium was promoted as a cure for alcoholism by the late 1800’s. Opium started to be known as a pain killer around 1810, recognized as a wonder drug because it left the user in a completely numb, euphoric state. By the mid 1850’s, morphine was available in the United States. The addictive properties went unnoticed until after the Civil War, then the United States had been overcome with a morphine epidemic. In 1874 the answer to this problem? Heroin. Heroin was imported into the United States from Germany, the sales pitch that created a market to American doctors and their addicted patients was that Heroin was a “safe, non-addictive” substitute. From the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s drug companies began manufacturing over-the-counter drug kits this was was sold legally in the United States until 1920. Congress recognized the danger of these drugs, by the time Dangerous Drug Act was passed it was too late. A market for heroin had been created and in 1925, which would continue to this day. Drugs are bad, a functioning addict seems as a fantasy or a bed time story a drug dealer might try to tell a teenager.Addict, mentally dependent and unable to stop without incurring adverse effects. Fact is drugs enter your brain and leave their mark. https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/27/health/functioning-heroin-addicts/index.html I will comment on Noel and ________ blog posts. Ending with a somewhat ironic story, the chapter The White Whale was a nice way to go back to the beginning yet with a different tone. Very obviously, this story would continue with more stories of the authors life. Mistakes, new beginnings, lessons learned, the whole shabang. I wouldn't be able to write a mini sequel because this book is basically autobiography, if anything a prequel written by Waskys' parents about childhood stories would be interesting to read. The main character would grow and eventually develop to who they are now, because well kids grow and change. The main conflict in this would be to find interesting stories that Watsky wouldn't mind letting the public know. I would recommend this book to read to a friend because it's so different and honest. The only problem would be wether or not the person i'm recommending it too knows about George Watsky.
I will comment on Noel and Cesars blogs. In this section of the book I really feel like Watsky took a different approach, he wrote how other people experienced the section or story of his life in the moment which was really cool, However, the question of how he went along in doing this was in my mind through reading the book and was never really answered. I would certainly love to be friends with the author and and main character, George Watsky. I've always admired his work and how he chooses to do things but now that I have an idea of what goes through his head I feel like we would hit off pretty well. If I were to interact in this story I would most likely be a background character, but really every one is in this book. As stated earlier I would get along with George because we think alike and I wouldn't really struggle to get along with anyone because most of these people introduced have been positive or learning opportunities .
I will comment on Noel and Cesars blogs. The chapter I spoke about the last post was Down to the Filter and it turned out to be about Los Angles and learning to love the core of everything that makes us humans, humans. Further into reading, I was introduced to Pauly Shore (an icon to Watsky when he wanted become an actor), students from Kirksville, Missouri (where he got his first large crowd) ,and Paul Norman Watsky (Watskys father). For the most part these characters do have good relationships or have helped Watsky in someway grow and learn. Without these characters I doubt there would even be an essay to write, needless to say without other characters in Watskys story the whole book would be long and lonely.
I will comment on Noel and Cesars blogs. How to Ruin Everything by George Watsky talks about stories in his life such as smuggling tusks to how "Fa Kieu" (flower bridge in Cantonese) influenced his life in one way or another.
George Watsky talks about his adventures and growths in life, something i've noticed is that he briefly talks about large events but goes deeply into the smaller details. My book is written in essay format and shows different stages of his life, because my book does not have a plot I will take the next essays title and guess what it's about. "Down to the Filter", usually I could have some idea of what the chapter is about with reading 1-2 sentences. This chapter however, did not help at all with the title. Knowing George Watskys writing, I believe he will take this both fugitively and literally. I can't really predict much more but I'm looking forward to the chapter. I believe this book will be very human which will make me want to read it. I have very much enjoyed the book so far & I just love George Watsky so much. I will comment on Henna and Noels blog post. |
