CNN February 27, 2018 "Inside the secret lives of functioning heroin addicts" By Jessica Ravitz This article is about the inside life of heroin addicts with an (almost) normal life. Work, signs of an addict, and heroin addicts talking about their everyday lives. These are truly stories that you'll never forget. Addicted, google gave me "hysically and mentally dependent on a particular substance, and unable to stop taking it without incurring adverse effects" a better way to explain it would be, as Todd said "I want to feel like this for the rest of my life". That's how it starts, never wanting to end the rush. Addiction isn't always drugs, it could be gambling or the internet. Although Todd has his limits and makes good money, other people in his life haven't been as lucky. Lisa (another story talked about) does it not for the high, but to stay completely and utterly numb. Luckier than todd, Lisa is married, her husband vowing to stay by her side. This event has been happening 1800-2018 all around the world, or where ever drugs are available. In the mid to late 1800’s, opium use was due to the drug being brought into the country by Chinese immigrants who came to the U.S. for work and alcoholism was one of the major sources of violence and death during this period. Eventually, opium was promoted as a cure for alcoholism by the late 1800’s. Opium started to be known as a pain killer around 1810, recognized as a wonder drug because it left the user in a completely numb, euphoric state. By the mid 1850’s, morphine was available in the United States. The addictive properties went unnoticed until after the Civil War, then the United States had been overcome with a morphine epidemic. In 1874 the answer to this problem? Heroin. Heroin was imported into the United States from Germany, the sales pitch that created a market to American doctors and their addicted patients was that Heroin was a “safe, non-addictive” substitute. From the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s drug companies began manufacturing over-the-counter drug kits this was was sold legally in the United States until 1920. Congress recognized the danger of these drugs, by the time Dangerous Drug Act was passed it was too late. A market for heroin had been created and in 1925, which would continue to this day. Drugs are bad, a functioning addict seems as a fantasy or a bed time story a drug dealer might try to tell a teenager.Addict, mentally dependent and unable to stop without incurring adverse effects. Fact is drugs enter your brain and leave their mark. https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/27/health/functioning-heroin-addicts/index.html I will comment on Noel and ________ blog posts.

Ending with a somewhat ironic story, the chapter The White Whale was a nice way to go back to the beginning yet with a different tone. Very obviously, this story would continue with more stories of the authors life. Mistakes, new beginnings, lessons learned, the whole shabang. I wouldn't be able to write a mini sequel because this book is basically autobiography, if anything a prequel written by Waskys' parents about childhood stories would be interesting to read. The main character would grow and eventually develop to who they are now, because well kids grow and change. The main conflict in this would be to find interesting stories that Watsky wouldn't mind letting the public know. I would recommend this book to read to a friend because it's so different and honest. The only problem would be wether or not the person i'm recommending it too knows about George Watsky.
