The New York Times 6/4/18 "Guatemala Volcano’s Death Toll, Now at 65, Is Likely to Rise" By Nic Wirtz and Elisabeth Malkin This article is about the current volcano eruption in Guatemala, Mexico. The article talks a lot about the devastation and the havoc it has caused in peoples life. Many tragic photos can be seen in the article. The volcano first erupted on June third taking the life of 25. That number quickly rose to 65 the next day and up to hundreds are estimated. "The volcano then continued to spew ash, rocks and gas into the air. A second powerful eruption followed at 6:45 p.m. and the activity finally subsided after 16½ hours,". Many people are buried, leaving family members distraught. The seen was described as Pompeii in 79 A.D. by Dr. Otto Mazariegos. This area is still at risk for acid rain. This event was a natural disaster, volcanoes erupt because of density and pressure. The lower density of the magma relative to the surrounding rocks causes it to rise. It will rise to the surface or to a depth that is determined by the density of the magma and the weight of the rocks above it. This event is really sad and an overall scaring experience. I think people and the city will suffer for many years to come not only economically but emotionally as well. I send my prayers with everyone hurt in this disaster. Include at least one photo of something relevant to the article. I will comment on Paola and Jennys blog posts.
